The sudden storm swept over the tranquil villages in Central Vietnam. Not long ago, I recalled the dreamy beauty, gentle amidst a vast expanse of marshes at sunset. Tam Giang shimmered, wind-swept; villagers cast their nets and pulled them gently across the calm waters. But born in Central Vietnam, I understand the harsh realities nature imposes. We build, only to be swallowed by rising waters, the storm surges high.
The collection “An Evening over Tam Giang” is a wistful homage to the countryside where we yearn for nature’s embrace. It explores the serene beauty of the riverine region, ubiquitous across Vietnam—the layered fish traps, the intricate nets, or the glittering twilight on the river. Yet, deep within lies a heavier heart, evoked by images of swirling storms or the torrential floods, tumultuous and relentless.
The Métier d’Art Collection celebrates craftsmanship and artisan techniques, employing the most refined methods in fashion to depict these details. The tornado is captured through spiral draping forms, adorned with concentrically twisted mesh strips in a highly complex configuration. The dress, inspired by fish traps, utilizes multiple fixed forms demanding advanced tailoring techniques, then embellished with thousands of crystals and 14 types of stones; the striking hat mimics dewdrops on fishing lines.
Each ebb and flow of the floodwaters is rendered with 3D elastic mesh segments, where artisans invest hundreds of hours meticulously calculating every millimeter, creating a rhythmic pulse from large to small, uniformly precise. Inside each uniquely designed piece lies a story of Tam Giang’s waters.
