“𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒆̂𝒖 𝒕𝒉𝒂̂𝒏”
Sitting in front of my father’s motorbike as it sped through the night, the moths slammed into my eyes, causing discomfort and a sharp sting. I thought to myself how foolish these tiny creatures were, not understanding why they kept flying towards the light. In the curious mind of a child, I was increasingly drawn to them. While humanity has not yet fully explained this phenomenon, it is believed that they use moonlight to navigate, flying towards a safe place, but the artificial lights distract and confuse them, leading them to crash and perish. Yet, even though their departure is naive, these tiny creatures have given their all to fly toward what they believed to be a safe, beautiful place—the moonlight.
It is worth noting that “moth” is not a term for a specific species; it refers to small flying insects attracted to light in the night, including species like powder-winged moths, winged termites, and scale-winged moths. The collection uses the imagery of these tiny creatures to evoke a romantic, ethereal atmosphere in each design. The intricate details represent these minuscule creatures, with the wings of moths stylized as 3D elements that fly around the body or hang loosely along the dress. The striped patterns on the wings of termites are peeled apart, illustrating their fragile beauty through textiles. The collection applies sewing techniques, design methods, and materials to bring these elements to life. The collection will be fully described through each reader’s personal perspective and feeling about the designs. With respect!
